My process

The journey to a user-centric solution

My design process involved competitor analysis and desk research. I also collaborated with the customer support team and received valuable insights. After establishing the core users, I worked on the user flows and wireframes to improve the user experience. I also created a wireframe library to ensure a consistent visual identity then collaborated with a UI designers, graphic designer for the high fidelity designs and product manager for a successful launch.

Step 01

Research & discovery

To understand the user challenges and address the low retention rate we were experiencing, I conducted research to identify its root cause. I used competitor research to examine some of the leading review apps on Shopify such as Yotpo, Judgeme, Loox and Ryviu, to grasp current market trends. Additionally, I gathered feedback through the customer support team regarding the most frequent user complaints.

Insights

Difficult import process

  • Limitations in importing from specific existing review platforms.
  • Does not any import history e.g. dates, reviews imported etc.
  • Little feedback and directions on how to import reviews

Limited review visibility and options

  • Limited options to customize timing and recipients of automatic review requests
  • Can't send review requests to previous customers.
  • Limited options to customize and save branded emails.

Limited review visibility and options

  • Restricted view and filtering options for incoming reviews.
  • Limited options for publishing reviews.
  • Few customization options for review widget on the shop site

Overall, the app lacked some critical features and had limited options on customizing the existing features. Visually, there were a lot of inconsistencies in the font, colors and general layout of the design. The visual also looked outdated and unimpressive.

Step 02

Understanding the users

Through our research and discovery phase, we made several key observations and gathered valuable insights. Our interviews and surveys revealed a wide range of user payment habits.

Step 03

Ideation

During the ideation , I was faced with a multitude of insights so my role as a UX designer involved strategic prioritization. I assessed and prioritized the most essential features, , making sure they captured the heart of our app. This selection process was guided not only by user feedback but also by technical constraints and the approaching launch date.

These are the core features I came up with:

Wireframes

After brainstorming, I created low-fidelity mockups to visually represent the functionalities and asked my team for input . With their help and a few iterations, I was able to create final wireframes for every function and including popups in the design and specific error messages.

Step 04

Visual brand identity & Hi-Fi Design

Wireframe library

I established a wireframe library to be used company wide. This library contained all the major components and layouts to be used in the wireframing step. The aim was to improve consistency across all design and reduce the workload.

Documentation

Following the approval of the components, I prepared documentation that covers how to use each component, the naming convention and how to guidelines on adding new components.

High fidelity designs

I collaborated with a UI designer and a graphic designer to accomplish the high fidelity designs. The design concept we have crafted is a harmonious blend of several key elements aimed at delivering a unique and user-centric experience.

Results !!

After launch, we noticed an improvement in retention rate by 16%. This showed that the application is more useful and usable for our users. The reviews from the users is also proof of this.
